What’s in and…sadly, what’s out for 2015.
As I pack up the Christmas décor and bring out the usual vases, table top décor and all the razzmatazz I’m always tempted to stash the old and redo. I can’t help myself. So, where are we headed in design for 2015? And, more importantly what should we leave behind.
Hello……
Gold and brass!
This makes me happy! I am a sparkle and shine kind of girl and mixed metals is where it’s at. You simply cannot have enough gold, silver and now, thankfully brass and rose gold. Mix and match. Don’t over think it – even in a single room. If it feels good, do it. And the angel sings.
Cowhide. Everything. While in Pigeon Forge this summer I stumbled into a family-owned shop that had more cowhide than you can shake a stick at. They produce and sell them. It was heaven. They don’t have a website and don’t ship. Bummer. But, I absolutely fell in love with them as a concept and even more as a design element. Buy a cowhide…. or 10.
Wallpaper. Wallpaper. Wallpaper.
It’s baaaaack. In a big way. And it’s beautiful. Go graphic. Go bold. Go fun. This is a fabulous way to get a BIG bang for the buck.
Navy Blue.
Think drapes and pillows. Think small bathrooms and Master Bedrooms. Think accessories. The official “Color of the Year” is Marsala but I’ve seen nothing but navy, navy and more navy. It’s deep, moody, cozy and crisp. It’s a neutral and can be paired with almost any other color scheme. I’m not really a blue person but I might try a pop here or there.
Bye Bye…….
Chevron. Sad but true. Everything has a time line. I love it but we’re through.
Text on Walls. I have an affinity for the written word and I may still use this sparingly but it’s officially over.
Mirrored Furniture. Enough already.
Matchy Matchy. If you love a couch – buy the couch. Not the set. Mix it up. New goes with old. Dark goes with light. It’s all about balance and harmony not “matching.” Matching is boring.
Lastly, If I hear the word “Man Cave” one more time I will shoot someone. Not joking.
Happy New Year!!
